This facility is a water tower built to supply water to the steam locomotives running on the Jungang Line. At the very top of the tower was a water tank, with pumping equipment below it to draw water up. The top has four ventilation windows, among other features typical of a 1940s water tower. Such towers disappeared with the arrival of diesel locomotives in the 1950s, but this railway facility, which served an important function for steam locomotives in the course of modernisation, is of high value.
