Built around 1919, this building was donated in 1950 by a local notable known as Choi-buja ('the rich Mr Choi'), and it is still used today as the official residence of the Goesan-gun county governor. Most of the official residences surviving from the modern period are built in foreign architectural styles, but the Goesan governor's residence is especially significant for retaining the form of a traditional hanok. It consists of a daemungan-chae (gate quarters) with a sotteul-daemun, a central gate raised higher than the flanking wings, an 'ㅡ'-shaped sarangchae (men's quarters), and an 'ㄱ'-shaped anchae (women's quarters). The layout and composition of the interior rooms have been much altered, extended or rebuilt to suit changing ways of life, but the exterior still retains its former appearance well.
