구 통영군청 · 舊 統營郡廳

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1943, this building was constructed for use as the Tongyeong-gun office. After Chungmu City and Tongyeong-gun merged in 1995, it served as an annex of Tongyeong City Hall until 2002. From 2002 it was used, under the name "Festival House" of the Tongyeong International Music Festival, as a venue honouring world-renowned musicians, and since 2013 it has been used as the Tongyeong City Museum. The central section containing the main entrance projects about 1 m forward, giving the whole building left-right symmetry, and above the second floor a flagpole stand for hoisting the national flag is formed in the shape of a semicircular column. The building retains the exterior it had when first built, and together with "Isang Yun Street" it serves as a centre of cultural and artistic activity in the Tongyeong area. History: used as the Tongyeong-gun office from 1943; from 1 January 1995, when Chungmu City and Tongyeong-gun merged to form Tongyeong City, the administration moved to a new building and this one became an annex of Tongyeong City Hall from 1995; from 2002 it was fully renovated and repurposed as the Isang Yun Festival House; and from 2013 to the present it has been used as the Tongyeong City Museum.
