Watchtower of Taebaek Police Station
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This structure was built during the Korean War to guard against infiltration by North Korean forces and communist guerrillas, serving as both a sentry post and a watchtower. Armed police officers were stationed here, ringing a bell to signal danger in an emergency. The circular watchtower has two storeys, each with windows on all four sides for observing the surroundings. A square opening was cut into the floor, with a ladder placed through it to move between the two storeys. The structure offers a glimpse of the turmoil of the modernisation process, as seen in the suppression of partisans and communist guerrillas.
