The Iksan Sanctuary of Won-Buddhism occupies a large area within the city centre and functions as a sizeable open space. Within the sanctuary, eight buildings and two pagodas remain in their original form, in harmony with the surrounding landscape, including Bonwonsil, the first building erected in September 1924 when the Iksan Headquarters was built, and Geumgangwon, built in 1927 as the residence of the founder, Sotaesan Daejongsa. As the symbolic space of the Iksan Sanctuary of Won-Buddhism, it holds great religious and local historical value.
