This house is the birthplace of Useong Kim Jong-yeong (1915-1982), a pioneer of modern Korean sculpture and of art education, and it comprises a sarangchae (men's quarters), an anchae (women's quarters), a mungan-chae (gate quarters) and other buildings. It is notable for its storage spaces, high attic, sliding glass doors, and ventilation windows above the entrances that also let in light. The line "a palace of riotously blooming flowers" in the gagok (a Korean art song) "Gohyang-ui Bom" ("Spring in My Hometown") is said to describe this very house.
