Hacheonjae Ritual House in Deoksin-ri, Namhae
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This is a jaesil, a ritual house built to hold memorial rites for an ancestor, erected by Park Byeong-jip - known by his sobriquet Hacheon-gong, the fourteenth-generation descendant of Park Chung-won, who succeeded Toegye Yi Hwang as Yanggwan Daejehak, the senior scholarly post overseeing both of the state's royal academies - together with his son Park Chae-gyu, known by his sobriquet Manam, in memory of their ancestor's legacy. Gyeongmoheon and Sesimheon are arranged symmetrically on either side of Hacheonjae at the centre. A shrine enshrining the ancestral tablet is placed in the middle of the plan, combining a lecture hall and a shrine within a single building, a new trend well illustrated by jaesil architecture of the modern period. It is now used as "Hacheon Dasuk" to teach and spread the tea ceremony.
