This mural, attached to Daejojeon Hall, was produced around 1920 by Kim Eun-ho, a leading up-and-coming painter trained at Seohwamisulwon, a royal-sponsored art education institute. It carries on the tradition of coloured bird-and-flower painting, and its faithful rendering of form and technique produces a lavish composition. Together with five other pieces, it is one of only six court murals to survive, and rather than being mere decoration it is linked to the function of the hall, carrying an auspicious, symbolic meaning of restoring the royal family's diminished peace and authority and reaffirming its capability. This gives it historical and artistic value. However, the painter Kim Eun-ho is a figure named in the Report on the Investigation into Pro-Japanese, Anti-National Acts, compiled under the Special Act on Finding the Truth about Anti-National Acts under Japanese Colonial Rule.
