Yangijae Hall of Gyeongungung Palace
경운궁 양이재 · 慶運宮 養怡齋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building (Yangijae Hall) was erected within the palace grounds during the reconstruction of Gyeongungung Palace (1904–1906), the last major official construction project of the Korean Empire, and between 1906 and 1910 it was used as Suhakwon, a modern educational institution under the Gungnaebu (Office of the Royal Household) for royal and noble descendants. Ownership was later transferred, and around 1927 the building was relocated to its present site; during the move the interior flooring, partition walls, roof and pavilion-style platform were somewhat altered, but the basic frame and the condition of the side elevations remain relatively well preserved. It is of value both as a facility connected with Gyeongungung Palace from Korea's early modern period, and for having served as a modern educational institution for members of the royal family and nobility.
