Jin Seok-jung’s House, Geoje
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Built in 1947 after Liberation, this is the residence of a local upper-class family, standing on a trapezoidal plot elongated east–west, with the main house (anchae), a detached wing (byeolchae), a storehouse (gwangchae) and the gate arranged in a layout resembling the Korean letter ㅁ, square in plan but open on one side. It is of value as a house of the modern period that shows the characteristics and changes in the housing of the upper class in the island districts along the south coast of Gyeongsangnam-do in the late 1940s. The man who built the house, Jin Seok-jung (1912–1960), was a politician who had risen from the fisheries business and served as a member of the 4th National Assembly, among other posts.
