Tunnel Fortifications of Imperial Japan near the Foot of Songaksan Mountain, Jeju
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This is a tunnel-form fortification built by the Japanese military along the outer rim ridge of Songaksan Mountain's first crater. It was constructed to guard the military facilities around Songaksan (airfield, ammunition depot, hangars and the like) and to prepare against an enemy landing from the coast. The tunnels and their entrances are shaped like the body and legs of a centipede, narrow at around 1–2m in width, with 22 entrances confirmed. It is a historic site where one can examine the Japanese military's system for guarding the airfield and its concrete defensive preparations against a US landing, built as Japan, pushed onto the defensive in the final stages of the Pacific War, turned Jeju Island into a base of resistance.
