To evangelise the Seosan region of South Chungcheong Province, Sugok Catholic Church — the parent church — was established in 1908 at Gongni, Guhang-myeon, Gyeolseong-gun, South Chungcheong Province. Father Sim Eung-yeong (Desideratus Polly), the first priest, took up his post there, and Father Barraux (Korean name Peter), the fifth priest, purchased the site of the present church in Dongmun-dong in 1934; construction of the new building was completed in 1937. Centred on a bell tower at the middle, the nave and aisle sections each have an arched entrance, above which three round oxeye windows of graduated height compose the elevation. The porch and bell tower do not project from the façade, forming a single flat surface.
