The bell tower was built in 1930, and the bell in 1952. The bell tower has a hexagonal floor plan and a six-sided roof, decorated in the dapo style (a multi-bracket roof-support style) and in vivid dancheong, traditional multicoloured decorative painting. Unlike ordinary bell towers, its bronze finial (sangnyunbu) was built up like a pagoda, with the Gung-eul flag (弓乙旗) symbolising Suwoongyo cast into its centre. The bell is said to have been cast by melting down spent shell casings from the Korean War. Its surface bears the inscription 'Bell of the 36th Dosolcheon Heaven, Geumnyongsan', along with the Chinese characters 南無阿彌陀佛 (Namu Amitabul, meaning 'Homage to Amitabha Buddha').
