Jeong Byeong-uk’s House (Former Location of Yun Dong-ju’s Manuscripts)
윤동주 유고 보존 정병욱 가옥 · 尹東柱 遺稿 保存 鄭炳昱 家屋

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krBuilt in 1925, this building is where the manuscripts left behind by the poet Yun Dong-ju were kept fully intact. Yun Dong-ju (1917–1945) tried to publish "Sky, Wind, Stars and Poetry" in 1941, but the attempt failed owing to obstruction by the Japanese colonial authorities. He entrusted the manuscript to his close friend Jeong Byeong-uk (1922–1982, formerly a professor of Korean literature at Seoul National University), who kept it safe here with great difficulty until, after liberation, it was finally published in 1948. This house was built by Jeong Byeong-uk's father and combined the functions of a brewery and a residence.
