Daedong Salt Farm on Bigeumdo Island, Sinan
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This salt farm was created when the residents of Bigeumdo Island formed a salt farm cooperative; at the time of its establishment, it was the largest in the country apart from the salt farms of the Gyeonggi and Incheon region. The reservoir, evaporation ponds, crystallisation ponds and brine reservoirs of this extensive salt-farming area combine harmoniously, clearly illustrating the form of a solar salt farm. In particular, a solar-salt-farm technicians' training centre was established on Bigeumdo Island to train salt farm technicians, and the technicians it produced went on to take part in the construction of solar salt farms on neighbouring islands and in Wando Island, Haenam, Muan, Yeonggwang, Gochang, Buan, Gunsan and other areas, playing an important role in the development of Korea's salt farms after liberation.
