Old Walls of Oun Village, Uiryeong
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

The old walls of Oun Village are mostly earth-and-stone walls, along with stone walls and trifoliate-orange hedges, which combine beautifully with the hanok, the traditional Korean houses, and large old trees to form an attractive landscape. The earth-and-stone walls are about 1.5-2 m high and 40-60 cm wide, built according to traditional methods using square fieldstones 20-40 cm long together with clay. The stone walls are mostly built of fieldstones to a height of around 1.5 m, and were often used to make walls or retaining walls marking the boundary with a neighbouring house not facing onto an alley. The trifoliate-orange hedge surrounding the hanok at the entrance to the village is set on a stone-built platform, giving it an especially elegant appearance.
