This building is one of the financial institution buildings established during the Japanese colonial period for the purpose of shipping grain out to Japan and forcing the sale of land. It comprises a single-storey main building and two two-storey annexes, a warehouse and an office; the warehouse on the left has an unusual arrangement in which the doorway facing the main building was fitted out as a vault door, so that the vault normally required within a bank building was instead placed in a separate structure. The building illustrates well the characteristics of bank architecture built in the early part of the Japanese colonial period.
