The Former Lighthouse at the Entrance of Mokpo, Haenam, guided ships passing through the narrow channel between Hwawon Peninsula in Haenam County and Dallido Island in Mokpo, a strait on the sea route leading from the Dadohae Archipelago into Mokpo. It has a circular plan, with the lantern room built in two storeys so as to support the lamp apparatus, and the porch at the front entrance has an upper canopy that projects in a rounded arch form. A weathervane sits atop the dome-shaped roof, and the stairs above the lantern room and the handrail of the lantern-room roof survive in their original form.
