This house is where Chang Uc-chin (1917–1990), a member of Korea's first generation of Western-style painters and a major figure in the modern and contemporary art world, lived and worked from 1986 until his death. The Korean-style house (hanok) comprises a main house (anchae), a detached reception quarters (sarangchae) and a storehouse (gwang), arranged in the open, courtyard-enclosing square layout typical of traditional dwellings in Gyeonggi Province; Chang Uc-chin repaired it himself and used it as his studio and living quarters. The Western-style house was designed by the painter himself, based on the brick house depicted in his 1953 work 'Landscape with a Car'.
