Watchtower at Buhang Police Substation, Gimcheon
KOGL Type 4Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This structure is a self-built concrete defence facility that local residents constructed immediately after the Korean War to serve as a gun emplacement. By supporting the police from this position, residents made a major contribution to blocking the infiltration of North Korean guerrillas. It takes the form of a concrete tetrahedron 7 metres high, with two modern firing ports set into each of its four faces. The roof and the ladder once fitted inside to give access to the top of the watchtower have since been lost, but the entrance to the underground passage linking the watchtower to Buhang police substation remains well preserved.
