Monument for British Army’s Seolmari Battle, Paju
파주 영국군 설마리전투비 · 坡州 英國軍 雪馬里戰鬪碑

This monument was erected to honour the souls of the British soldiers who, during the Korean War, fought to the bitter end and died at the Battle of Seolmari even after their hill position had been completely surrounded by enemy forces. It was built by piling up stones quarried from the surrounding area, with four stone plaques attached, two above and two below. Of the upper pair, the left-hand plaque bears the United Nations flag and the right-hand one the insignia of the British unit that suffered the losses; of the lower pair, the left-hand plaque records the course of the battle in Korean and the right-hand one in English. It is an important piece of heritage offering tangible evidence of the United Nations forces' part in the war.
