Mika-style Steam Locomotive No. 304
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

Manufactured in 1944, this is a tender-type steam locomotive with a tender carrying coal and water attached at the rear. It was built in Japan and assembled at the Gyeongseong factory of the Railway Bureau of the Government-General of Joseon, and it operated on major trunk lines across the country, including the route from Busan to Sinuiju. On Children's Day in 1978, on the orders of President Park Chung-hee, it was sent to Sammu Park in Jeju and put on display for the benefit of children on the island who had no opportunity to see trains. It is the only coal-fired steam locomotive remaining in Korea, and it survives in its original form together with the tender that carries its coal and water.
