Narrow Gauge Steam Locomotive No. 13
협궤 증기기관차 13호 · 狹軌 蒸氣機關車 13號
Registered Cultural HeritageColonial Period · 1937

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis steam locomotive was manufactured in Japan and assembled at the Suwon Locomotive Office of the Railway Bureau of the Government-General of Joseon. It ran on a narrow-gauge track, with a rail spacing narrower than the standard gauge. Whereas most narrow-gauge locomotives are tank-type, this one is a tender-type, and it was used mainly to carry salt and rice on the Suin Line (Suwon–Songdo, Incheon) and the Suyeo Line (Suwon–Yeoju). Narrow-gauge trains were cheap to run and maintain, but slow and less safe, and as Incheon Port was expanded, the Suin and Suyeo Lines were closed, bringing its operation to an end.
