Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a set of three personal seals used by Kim Ku (1876-1949). Forming one matched set of colophon seals (nakgwan), they comprise a head seal (duin), a name seal (seongmyeongin) and a pen-name seal (ahoin), inscribed respectively with the characters 寬和 (Gwanhwa), 金九之印 ("Seal of Kim Gu") and 白凡 (Baekbeom, his pen name). They are carved from black jade stone with a lotus-leaf pattern, and bear the side inscriptions (cheukgwan, characters carved on the side of a seal) "惺齋作" ("made by Seongjae") and "丙戌仲春惺齋仿古" ("carved by Seongjae in imitation of the ancients, in the mid-spring of the byeongsul year [1946]"), which show that they were carved in the spring of 1946 by the renowned modern-period seal engraver Kim Tae-seok (1875-1953), known by his pen name Seongjae. Kim Ku mainly used this set when writing calligraphy, and it is stamped on most of the calligraphic works (yumuk) he produced after returning from China in November 1945, giving it great documentary value. <Quantity: 3; dimensions (width × length × height): 15×30×60mm, 32×32×60mm, 32×32×55mm; material: jade stone; date of manufacture: 1946>
