Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krIn May 2009, during the dismantling and repair of the Chilseonggak, the shrine hall dedicated to the Seven Stars at Jingwansa Temple in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, twenty artefacts of five types, including a number of newspapers associated with the independence movement, were discovered between the altar and the wall inside the hall. As the newspapers' dates of publication fall between June and December 1919, the material is presumed to have been collected by a monk at Jingwansa who joined the independence movement following the March First Movement of 1919. Not only is it highly significant that such valuable material related to the independence movement was discovered together in a single location, but it is also of great value as material that can supplement research into the anti-Japanese independence movement in China and at home between June and December 1919, following the March First Movement.
