Birthplace of Yun U-sik, Yecheon
예천 윤우식 생가 · 醴泉 尹雨植 生家

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThe birthplace of Yun U-sik (1906–1934) in Yecheon is the historic site where he was born and where he carried out anti-Japanese activities. He was a leader of Mumyeongdang (literally "the nameless society"), an anti-Japanese resistance organisation of the Japanese colonial period, and in September 1933 he led a struggle to defend the interests of the general public in the Yecheon area. In 1934 the organisation was discovered by the Japanese authorities, and Yun died while on trial. The sarangchae (the men's quarters), an L-shaped building, and the anchae (the main women's quarters), another L-shaped building, are arranged together to form an open rectangular layout, with a shrine three bays wide and one bay deep standing to the right. The house is a well-preserved example of the typical residential architecture of the Yeongnam region.
