The Janghang Granary employed highly distinctive construction techniques for a warehouse building of the Japanese colonial period, erecting reinforced concrete columns of an unusual form and, above them, an elaborate roof frame of wooden trusses interconnected along the purlin direction. Janghang began serving as a port for shipping grain to Japan from the 1920s, and its importance grew further with the opening of the Janghang Line railway in 1931; the granary was built during this period to store rice. It has historical value as evidence bearing witness to the history of rice exploitation from the Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong regions.
