Kiln structure: a stepped chambered kiln (12 chambers) Kiln length: 27 m overall (2–3 m wide) Kiln slope: 22–25° This is a 12-chamber stepped chambered kiln, originally built in 1949 as a lacquerware kiln and rebuilt in 1962. Its walls and ceiling were constructed of brick (with mangsaengi, a type of unfired clay brick, used in the firebox area), and the exterior was finished with a coating of clay. Its distinguishing features are its considerable length of about 27 m and its large number of chambers — twelve in all — with the inner wall widening from 1.65 m at chamber 1 to 3 m at chamber 12, becoming broader toward the rear. Looking from the firebox toward the chimney, each chamber has one entrance and one fire-viewing window on its right-hand side.
