The office of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju was built in 1961 to serve as the main hall (offices, library and classrooms), Henry Hall (dormitory) and cafeteria of Daegeon Theological Seminary. It was designed by an Australian priest whose name is unknown, and is notable for the way its buildings are organically linked to one another through a basement level. Daegeon Theological Seminary subsequently became Gwangju Catholic University, then the Gwangju Catholic University Lifelong Education Centre and the Gwangju Catholic Lifelong Education Centre, and since 11 August 2014 the buildings have served as the office of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju. Henry Hall of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gwangju was built as the dormitory of Daegeon Theological Seminary. It is connected to the stairwell behind the centre of the main hall at a right angle and with a half-storey change in level, forming an organic composition that emphasises both vertical and horizontal elements. On the flat roof, a channel is formed inside the parapet around its edge, and water is supplied over the slab, a construction technique that suppresses the rise in the building's temperature in summer.
