Former Official Residence of Governor of Gyeonggi-do Province
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

At a time when almost none of the modernist residential buildings built in the 1960s after liberation survive today, this official residence of the provincial governor clearly displays the plain, unadorned character typical of modernist residential architecture of that period. In the 1960s, major Korean buildings were designed with a strong modernist tendency, and this building likewise maintains the design concept used for the main building of the Gyeonggi-do provincial office. It is a split-level residence of the type favoured by architects of the 1960s, in which public areas and the family's private spaces are appropriately separated. Eschewing ornament, it clearly shows the characteristics of modern residential architecture: the proportions of the building's form and of its window and door openings, the active use of terraces, and the connection between the living room and the garden.
