O Jae-yeong was an independence activist who was arrested by the Japanese police, sentenced to one year's imprisonment, and served his term at Daegu Prison, after being identified as a co-conspirator in an attack carried out on 14 September 1920 by Bak Jae-hyeok, a member of Uiyeoldan, a militant Korean independence organisation. Disguised as a Chinese book merchant, Bak visited the chief of the Busan Police Station and threw a bomb that seriously wounded him.
